Job Description
Postdoctoral Position in Astrophysics: JWST Observations of Planet Formation
California State University Northridge (CSUN) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position on planet formation and protoplanetary disks.
The researcher is intended to work in Dr. Luca Ricci’s group at CSUN on the reduction and analysis of new JWST observations for the HD 163296 young planetary system. The project will involve the data reduction of high-contrast imaging observations with JWST/NIRCam, the observational characterization of the young planets in the system, and the modeling of the planet-disk interaction by connecting the planet properties with the morphology of the substructures already seen in the HD 163296 disk with ALMA and other observational facilities.
The successful applicant will have opportunities to disseminate this work through first-author publications and at a major conference, as well as working with international collaborators, particularly in the nearby JPL and Caltech, approximately 30 miles east of CSUN.
The position will start in early fall 2023 and end in spring 2025. The starting date is flexible but preference will be given to earlier arrivals.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have a PhD in Astronomy/Astrophysics or Physics by the starting date of the position, as well as some previous experience with data reduction in Astronomy. Previous research experience in the field of planet formation/protoplanetary disks would be highly valued but is not necessary to apply.
Applicants should submit their application material via email to Dr. Luca Ricci (luca.ricci@csun.edu ) by Friday July 21. Applications received after the deadline may be considered until the position is filled.
The email should include their:
(i) CV with a full list of refereed publications,
(ii) a brief research statement (max 4 pages) describing previous research experience as well as their interest in this position, and
(iii) the contact information of at least two persons willing to write reference letters.
Interviews will be conducted in late July / early August.
